Strong Work!

As I mentioned on Twitter, I am really impressed with your writing style, and the twisting and turning journey you take the reader on. The juxtapositions and similes you come up with are so refreshing and rewarding. I trust you will keep writing and gifting us all with such good stuff. Thanks.

Strong work + Panic and Despair

I read Myke's blog a while back where he discussed how he became a podcaster(http://mykebartlett.com/?q=blog/3). Apparently he never used to finish, but now he has to because we fans do not stop asking.

At first, I thought I would not be one of those fans, because that would not be nice, but you know, setting the "Salmon and Dusk finale" against the "Salmon and Dusk will return," I could totally be aggravating. Not a problem.
But now we are between stories, plus the site was down when I tried to post a comment right after finishing the third episode, so Myke is safe.

Nice job, Myke! "Bury My Past" is one of your best. Interesting music, entertaining artwork.

Thanks Gail! I think it's one

Thanks Gail!

I think it's one of my best too. Took longer to write than any of the others, but I was quite happy with how it all came together.

S & D will return, but not for a little while. I've got a couple of other projects I want to finish off first, but I imagine there'll be a short story (at least) around Christmas. Otherwise, the next we see of them might be in print.

cheers!

Myke

OK now that I'm done with the book

Very very strong work Myke mi boy, three cheers and standing ovations. You are one of the few serious authors in this podcast novel world, and I want to give you those kudos. So many books on PB.com or indies are simple rape/chainsaw/vampire angst light weights that it is more than refreshing to see ideas, energy, creativity and passion in words. That said, I'm sure your numeric success is limited, because McDonalds didn't get so large pandering to gourmets but to the masses, and the masses, they like their McYdies. I have mused before on the words of Satan newly arrived in Milton's Hell, whether it is better to serve in Heaven or reign in Hell. By slim analogy, is it better to produce great stuff and have few appreciate it, or Harry Potter, and make embarrassing millions for embarrassing writing? I guess, reluctantly, you'd have to count me among the former group, but did you hear she's working on a Harry Potter Theme Park? No no, stay focused Craig, focus!
A word about the ending. Yeah, there just had to be a 'but' in there, didn't there? I would like to see a more determinate ending, more specific. I might suggest an ending, and then an epilogue, with the latter the more ethereal and flighty portion, bringing in that element without diluting the story's end. It may simply be my provincial nature, but after such a long tale where I buy into the characters so fully, I like to see things tucked in a bit more. I only feel free to mention this because I do value you as a writer, and I don't see a print version for sale, so changes are not so difficult. In any case, once again, wonderful work; thank you......craig

Oh and by the by

Forgot to mention, your acting voice of the head footman was brilliant, and possibly too brilliant. The voice embodied all the revolting corporate namby pamby intonations which so predict the Fall of Western Civilization. It is worrisome, in that it suggests you may fit seamlessly into upper middle managment and be lost to us forever [the opposite of a Fallen....a Risen?]..........craig

Hi Craig, Thanks so much for

Hi Craig,

Thanks so much for such thoughtful commentary! Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, I've been busy with the day job and ignoring the site a little, having just finished a run of podcasts.

You're right about the ending. The first draft was written on a week-by-week basis, which probably wasn't conducive to water-tight plotting. I've spent the last few years reworking the novel, with the help of an agent, and I'm much happier with the result. I'll be even happier when I can share it with the rest of you!

Thanks too for the comments on the acting. There's certainly a frustrated thespian in me, wanting to get out. One of the things I love about the podcasting is a chance to create a product that allows me to use a range of skills, from writing to performance to sound production - all of which I enjoy. From memory, I was channelling Tony Blair for the Head Footman, whose middle-way platitudes appeared to damn us all.

As for middle-management... not very tempting, so no danger of my succumbing!

cheers!

Myke

Oh - meant to add, if you

Oh - meant to add, if you could bring yourself to rate/review the podcast on Podiobooks and/or iTunes, I'll be terribly grateful!

No Problema

I'll post some rating for sure.

Cheers!

Thanks Craig, much obliged!
