ELECTRICITY reviewed

Electricity

I mentioned this in the twitter feed last week but, for those of you who missed it, the redoubtable DL Owens recently reviewed Electricity.

Myke Bartlett’s strong narrative and his reading, brings the cast of this novel to life, with all of their darkness and their light. It is through their strengths and weaknesses that I felt a real connection with the characters of this story.Though I had a love for each character, I think it was the dialogue of Stephen, that led to the most laughs, of which there were many.

Bartlett’s use of flashbacks and reflections was expertly implemented as well, allowing the listener to gain further insight into the actions of Aston and those around him. Bartlett is careful to leave breadcrumbs throughout the story so that the reader can see the various clues about the place, but these same clues are often met with their own questions. The clues start from the first chapter, in the form of a news reel, and we see other seemingly insignificant events occur as the story progresses.

A Question

Is there a list of the music used in Electricity?

Timelines

Hi there, nice work with htdc.  Just was wondering if you could give me a breakdown of what you've written and when it was written, in which order said works are intended to be read, and what your plans for the future are.  I've seen all kinds of different sites of stuff about your work, but I find it all confused and apparently in the wrong order.  Also, if you could you refrain from the self depreciation, that'd be nice.

Aston Somerfield, casual smoker and part-time alcoholic, has travelled from Australia to London to find himself.  He knows who he’s looking for: he’s seen him on the cover of the NME.

Drawn across oceans by fame and fate, Aston is keeping his diary empty to make sure he's available.

When a virtual stranger calls Aston a few hours before his death, fate catches up with him, derailing his barely-made plans.  Amid a hundred boozy evenings and romantic deadends, a mystery unfurls.

Haunted by the ghost of someone he barely knew, Aston uncovers a different London, one of murder, ghosts, mysterious emails and the second big bang.

Seemingly as chaotic and random as the city it inhabits, Electricity evolves into a mystery bigger than the universe itself.   Being of a somewhat useless persuasion, Aston does his best to ignore it.
